CHHENA JHILLI || PANEER JALEBI RECIPE

Chhena Jhilli is a popular Odia sweet. It is a deep fried curd cheese soaked in sugar syrup.

INGREDIENTS:

For Chhena Jhilli:

▪️ 500 gms Chenna/Paneer
▪️ 3btsp Flour/Maida
▪️ 3tbsp Suji/Rava
▪️ Oil as Required for deep Frying
▪️ 1 Ketchup Bottle/Ziplock Bag

For Sugar Syrup:

▪️ 1 cup sugar
▪️ 3 cups of water
▪️ 5 roughly crushed Elaichi/Cardamom pods
▪️ 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice

INSTRUCTIONS:

For Sugar Syrup:

1. Add sugar and water to a pot.

2. Boil on a medium heat until it reaches one string consistency. You can measure the consistency by taking it in between your thumb and index finger.

3. Pour lemon juice and Cardamom powder. The lemon juice will prevent the crystallization of sugar.

4. Remove from heat and set it aside.

For Chenna Jhilli:

1. In a mixing bowl, take 500gm Chenna/ Crumbled Paneer and add 3tbsps Maida, 3tbsps Suji and a pinch of Baking Powder.

2. Mix everything well to make a fine dough. Knead the dough for about 10 mins to make it soft.

3. Now transfer the dough to 1 Ketchup Bottle/Ziplock Bag with a small nozzle.

4. Heat oil in a pan.

5. Now squeeze the dough from the bottle/ziplock bag and move in circular motion to make a spiral shape.

6. Fry it in low flame until it turns golden brown.

7. Move the fried spiral balls to the sugar syrup.

8. Let it be soaked in sugar syrup for 30 mins before serving.

Trust me, it is as sweet and soft as it looks.
