DAHI MANJA || BANANA STEM KADHI RECIPE

The best thing about a banana plant is the entire plant plant is either edible. Many use it in their religious rites as well.

One such part of the banana plant is its stem. In this article we will prepare Kadhi/Raita out of the banana stem.

INGREDIENTS:

▪️ Manja / Banana Stem : 1 piece (As per the size available in market)
▪️ Amba kasi Ada/ Mango Ginger
▪️ Finely Chopped Pudina Leaves
▪️ Finely Chopped Green Chillies
▪️ Red Chilli: 2
▪️ Panchphoran: 1 teaspoon
▪️ Curry Leaves
▪️ Finely Chopped Coriander leaves
▪️ Turmeric powder
▪️ Curd: 1 Bowl
▪️ Sugar: 1/2 tbsp and Salt as per taste

RECIPE:

1.  Peel the banana stem in vertical manner and then cut into horizontal round slices. While cutting each slice pull the fibrous strings and throw it.

2.  Then cut the slices into small cubes and keep it soaked in water, else it would lead to browning or blackening of the banana stem cubes.

3. In a wide bottomed vessel, add two cup of water and a pinch of turmeric powder, salt according to the taste and the banana stem cubes and let it boil for 10mins in a medium flame.

4. After the banana stem is boiled strain the water.

5. Roughly mash the banana stem with sugar, mango ginger, green chillies, chopped coriander and pudina leaves.

6. In a pan heat oil. Add panchphoran, hing and then curry leaves. Add red chilli and Banana Stem mix. Mix everything well.

7. Switch off the flame and let it cool down a bit. Add curd to it. Check salt and add if required.

8. Serve Dahi Manja/Banana Stem Kadhi with Rice.
